We love Aotearoa and we want to protect it. Our kids have a birth right to swim in clean rivers, fish in the sea, and walk in pristine forests.
Our Environment Policy protects our natural heritage from those who only want short term profit from exploiting our finite resources, such as industrial dairying and open-cast mining. We depend on nature so we need to look after it.
Real prosperity means clean rivers and air, rich biodiversity, protected marine areas, and a GE-free New Zealand.
Conservation in our backyard
Many of the plants and wildlife that New Zealanders treasure don’t live on conservation land. We need more funding for the Department of Conservation to enable it to do its job, but we also need to strengthen the rules that protect the places, plants and wildlife that we care about.
The Green Party will:
- Improve support for community organisations that stand up for the environment, our native species and the places they live.
- Put the protection of our treasured native species and habitats at the heart of our law by strengthening the RMA.
- Support local councils to help them protect our native biodiversity.
