Mixed Member Proportional (MMP) is a great electoral system. It's fair, it means that everyone's vote counts, and it makes parliament a more diverse and representative place.
At the 2011 election, New Zealanders voted in a referendum to keep MMP as our electoral system.
A review of MMP began in February 2012, led by the Electoral Commission, to make our electoral system even more effective.
After a robust public consultation process the final report was presented to the Minister of Justice.
