‘Everyone needs the right help’ campaign launch

Everyone needs the right help, and our campaign will highlight the under-resourcing of specialist survivor services for people who have been raped, sexually assaulted or sexually abused.

A new Green Party campaign has been launched to highlight the need for better access to specialist services for survivors of rape and sexual abuse.

"There are whole groups of people in New Zealand who don't have the access they need to specialist survivor services to help them recover from sexual violence," Green Party spokesperson for women Jan Logie said.

"That's why we've launched the 'everyone needs the right help' campaign.

"Groups like disabled people, Pacifica people and refugees are left with no services to support their specific needs. Male survivors of sexual abuse and people in remote communities also have little chance of getting help.

"On top of the current gaps, existing services are being reduced and closed, even though more and more survivors are asking for help, leaving people with nowhere to go.

"Everyone needs the right help, and our campaign will highlight the under-resourcing of specialist survivor services for people who have been raped, sexually assaulted or sexually abused.

"We're asking people to take part, and share their stories about what services helped them with their recovery and why these services are so valuable.

"Our campaign will give people the chance to share their stories about the good help they received and what they needed in order to survive after experiencing sexual violence.

"People can engage in the 'everyone needs the right help' campaign through our dedicated Facebook page.

"Rape and sexual abuse can destroy lives; everyone needs the right help.

"No single government is to blame. This inadequate funding for services has been happening for years, but it needs to stop.

"It's time to bring this issue out into the light and talk about what sexual violence support is needed, and how much funding we need to commit to it."
